Included in the teaching of Understanding are the forgiveness and love.
Opposites are ignorance, prejudice, hate and revenge/holding grudges.
We are capable of understanding our place in the world and controlling our actions, living in harmony and balance with all land and life.
Seek to understand others before you judge, condemn or blame others for their actions. In attempting to understand others, you will come to understand yourself. Look at the path a person has walked in life, put yourself in their place, and come to realize that this could very well be yourself under a different set of circumstances.
Each of us are responsible for our actions, but always seek to place understanding and compassion before hate. Strive to keep hate and anger far from your heart.
What we do not understand, we often fear or hate, and what we fear or hate we often destroy. Our Elders told us, never hold a grudge. For in seeking revenge you will perpetuate hate, and it may continue with no end.
Often it is that those we hate the most, we have injured the most. When hate enters our hearts, when we are prejudiced, it is often it is fear of what we hate deep within ourselves. With understanding comes forgiveness and compassion. We are all human, ne of us are infallible and we will die one day. When we truly understand and love others, we will wish to help and not destroy them. Good and evil lies within each of us, and it is our choice which path we will tread.
An Elder said, "With understanding comes forgiveness. Without forgiveness there can be no peace, and without peace there can be no happiness."
When judging and criticizing others, look deep within; you may be judging and criticizing yourself.
Look for the good in others and you will find it.
